Sick cats left outside Brown Co. Humane Society
A volunteer found the cats in boxes outside the Brown County Humane Society on Saturday morning.
Holes were made in the boxes so the abandoned cats could breathe. But Humane Society volunteer Gerald Woodley says the cats were in poor health, with ringworm and upper respiratory illnesses.
The Journal reports ( ) the sick cats are now isolated in the shelter, away from the rest of the cats. Veterinarians were treating some of the newfound cats.
Animals surrendered to the Humane Society cost owners $75 each. Woodley says treating the ill cats will cost the Humane Society far more than the $1,500 that would have been generated if the cats were properly surrendered.

GOP Reps. Mark Buesgens (Jordan), Tom Hackbarth (Cedar) and Bruce Vogel (Willmar) are the only ones to vote no. Express your thanks ( rep.firstname.lastname@house.mn ) Our efforts nearly killed the bill (so I was told), but after inter-caucus arm twisting, negotiations with reticent House members, and promises to make changes to the bill in Conference Committee (CC), the HHS vote went forward as planned. Some GOP House members likely voted yes in hopes of getting on the conference committee to make sure those changes happen. Doug Wardlow (R-Eagan) said publicly on the floor that "health disparities" must be gone or he will vote against the final bill. "Health Disparities": The day of the vote, CCHF emailed a letter to Republicans explaining six concerns with the bill, including "health disparities." This is a liberal strategy to secure universal health care ("health equity"). Proponents blame "health disparities" on race, ethnicity, culture, gender, age, environment, sexual preference, language, etc. Concerns Remain: Most of our concerns were not addressed in the amendment offered on the floor by the author, but we are still working with leadership -- and have been given assurances that all "health disparities" sections and language will be removed in conference committee. Other remaining concerns about the House bill include: Spending at "Stimulus" Levels: Both House and Senate HHS bills fail to return health care spending to pre-stimulus spending. The 2009 federal "stimulus" bill increased state health and human services spending by $1.6 million. Those stimulus funds are gone. Yet both House and Senate "backfill" the hole with increased state taxpayer spending rather than returning to pre-stimulus levels. This $1.6 million expansion follows President's Obama's "stimulus" strategy for expanding government entitlement programs. Disagreement Expected: These 10 conferees may find it difficult to negotiate a single Conference Committee Report (bill) for final passage by both chambers. For instance, the Senate bill is 192 pages long and the House is 351 pages long. The House bill has about 192 sections that were never part of any bill and had no public hearing. I tweeted recently that the House bill is the HHS "Pelosibus" bill. We may have to pass it to find out what's in it.
