Auditions seek extras for movie by 'Superman' studio

Naperville residents that have always wanted their time in the spotlight might want to dust off their headshots and maybe get their teeth whitened before Saturday. And, if they’ve got a a red cape or blue tights laying around, that might not hurt, either.

The official casting call is for “Autumn Frost,” a major Warner Bros. film from the director of “300.” But “Autumn Frost” is reportedly the code name for “Superman: Man of Steel,” which the Chicago Film Office has said will be filming in Plano and Chicago this summer. Zack Snyder, director of “300,” is director of the upcoming Superman movie.

The open casting call from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday will be at DePaul University Naperville Campus, 150 West Warrenville Road.

“Autumn Frost,” which will shoot in Chicago and Plano in August and September, is currently casting for non-speaking roles and body doubles from people of all ages, according to Tom Gustafson, a background casting director.

Gustafson said participants at the casting call will have their photo taken and will apply to be an extra in person. He said those chosen will find out a few weeks before the filming begins.

The film will star Kevin Costner and Diane Lane as Clark Kent’s parents, as well as Amy Adams as Lois Lane. British film star Henry Cavill will play the Man of Steel.

Casting calls are also being held in Plano on June 22 and Chicago on June 25. The casting offices are located in Aurora, according to the casting website, and Gustafson said Naperville was chosen as a tryout location because of its central West suburban location.

Gustafson said the majority of the film will shoot in Chicago and Plano, but said he was not aware of all shooting locations.
