Metropolitain A.M.E Zion Church will be hosting a Men’s Day program that will highlight men of God in a positive manner. The key focus is to work and attract Christian business men and government personnel to help the community to be known as positive role models in the local and business communities. The Theme of this Event is called Men Behaving Godly.
This spectacular event will be held on June 26, 2011 at 4pm at Metropolitan A.M.E Zion Church 317 N.Dena St. Spartanburg, SC 29302 and will be hosted by the Reverend Edward L. Surratt with special guest speaker the great Bishop Kevin L. Long
Ministerial visionary and businessman, Bishop Kevin L. Long began his journey of faith at the young age of 12 in Charlotte North Carolina. In the years to come, Bishop Long would quickly realize that there was a ministerial call upon his life, and thereafter, spend the next 10 years serving under the tutelage of his father, the late Reverend Sampson Long at The Macedonia Baptist Church, located in Concord North Carolina.
Bishop Long attended Elizabeth City State University in Elizabeth City North Carolina, where he successfully completed curriculum requirements for a BA in Political Science. Bishop Long is currently in pursuit of his Doctorate in Theology at Trinity Theological Seminary, along with further studies with The American University in Rome.
In 1995 Bishop Long became the pastor of Temple Church International, one of the fastest growing churches in Charlotte and surrounding communities, where he unwaveringly serves till this day. As pastor of Temple Church International Bishop Long has implemented many programs that benefit the community at large. One of which is Temple BC CDC, a community development corporation that was created to assist those who have special needs.
In 2003, Bishop Kevin Long released his first book entitled “The Gideon Principle”. In this book Bishop Long explains how “one changed mind can bring deliverance to many”. It is a must read.
As one of Charlotte’s premiere community leaders, Bishop Long is a member of the Mayor’s Mentoring Program, where he assists in mentoring at risk youth, and has been appointed to work on the Youth and Gang Drug task force for the Charlotte community.
Because of Bishop Long’s passion for people, he has been afforded the opportunity to travel all across this world, spreading what he believes to be the true gospel of Jesus Christ. Bishop Long has traveled to South Africa to service those who are living with HIV/AIDS, as well as Nigeria where he has aided in feeding, clothing and educating those who are less fortunate. Bishop Long has also partnered with other pastors in India, in support of orphanages there. His most recent trip included a trip to the Bahamas where he participated in missions work with churches in the neighboring communities. In June of 2011 Bishop Long will be heading up his second missions trip to Montego Bay Jamaica.
