Family friendly hotel, Amherst/North Hampton/Holyoke, MA area ...
My husband and I want to take our daughters (almost 4 and 18 months) for a short two day trip to Western, MA sometime this summer. Two places we want to hit are the Eric Carle museum in Amherst and the children's museum in Holyoke. We need a family friendly hotel to stay at for two nights. We would like it to have a pool, but it doesn't have to be fancy. Where do you suggest we stay? Amherst or North Hampton or Holyoke? We would like to be pretty close to the town we stay in. Any info would be helpful as I do not know much about this area, even though I have lived in eastern and central MA my entire life. Any ideas on what other things to do with younger little ones in this area?
There are a bunch of chain hotels along Route 9 in Hadley that will put you between the Eric Carle Museum and Rt 91 to Holyoke. A colleague comes to town often and stays at the Quality Inn, which she likes very much (and they have a pool for the kids.) Also on Rt 9 there's a Hampton Inn, EconoLodge, Holiday Inn Express, Courtyard by Marriott, Howard Johnsons. Surprisingly neither Amherst nor Northampton have much in the way of hotels, although there is a Clarion in Northampton with both an indoor and an outdoor pool, though the hotel itself is kind of skeevy. The Autumn Inn is nice in Northampton and has a sweet small pool. It is set up motel style but is right near the Smith College campus ( beautiful for walking) and pretty near Look Park, which has a small kid sized water park, bumper boats, mini golf, big fields to run in, a train which runs around it and a sweet small zoo with deer and other local animals. I have never met a kid who did not love Look Park.
