While teaching, she was a member and served as president of the Madison-Oneida BOCES Teacher Center Board. Rinaldo also spent time in Albany at the State Education Department writing New York state music curriculum. In her retirement years, Rinaldo has accepted numerous, long-term substitute positions in the Oneida City Schools as well as in the Stockbridge and Madison Central schools . Rinaldo is a life-time member of the National Parent-Teacher Association. Professional memberships include the Oneida Retired Educators Association, the NYS Retired Teachers Association and the Sigma Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma International, where she held several offices; president, vice president and Pi State music chair. She is also a member of the Canastota Alumni Association, the Oneida Area Civic Choral and a former member of the Sweet Adelines International, Sound of Silver Chorus and of a competitive quartet, The Silver Edition. Astrachan’s professional activities include membership in the Association of Math Teachers of NYS and in the Association of Math Teachers of Madison and Oneida County. He is a member of the New York State United Teachers and currently co-president of CREW (Canastota Retired Educators at Watch). As a past member of the Canastota Civic Club, Astrachan served consecutive years as treasurer, secretary, vice president and president. Retirement in 2003 changed Astrachan’s direction in careers. He is currently employed as a consultant for a national educational software company based in Syracuse. As a senior field editor, he is responsible for creating and editing databases of high school mathematics questions. He and his wife Mary Jo also participate in area craft shows selling nature photography and beaded jewelry. Prior to her marriage in 1969, Pestell worked as a foreign expeditor for Welch Allyn. She began working in the Canastota Central School system in 1983, first introducing students to office machines for the purpose of transforming creative writing into book form. Pestell became a special education aide and a support secretary for the Pupil Personnel Service Department at the high school, then moved into a full time secretarial position for that department.
