KDOT project to begin on Westgate

At 19:30 Friday, weather permitting, a project to repair and resurfacing will begin on US-75 South Westgate Bridge Highway in the Kansas River in Shawnee County, said Kimberly Qualls, spokeswoman for the Department of Transportation Kansas.

The resurfacing project will improve and preserve the running surface of the bridge deck, Qualls said. The crews will perform work around the clock on several consecutive weekends from 19:30 Friday night by 6 o'clock the following Monday.

Beginning at 7:30 pmFriday, south US-75 traffic on the Westgate Bridge will be reduced to one lane for about half a mile south of the interchange of Highway US-24 just before the Interstate 70 interchange ramps.

All lanes and ramps on U.S. 75 will be reopened to traffic at 6 am Monday. Crews will begin working on the right lane. Once completed, work on the left lane will begin.

NW Lower Silver Lake Road entrance ramp to US-75 southbound will be closed during the weekend closures in length. No marked detour will be provided. All other adjacent ramps will remain open.

Traffic will be directed through the work area of ​​the project through signage and cones. There will be a restriction of 12 feet wide lanes throughout the work area of ​​the project at closing. A 55 mph speed limit will be displayed.

Wildcat Construction Co. is the prime contractor on the resurfacing project with a total cost of the contract of $ 280 848. The expected completion date is mid-August.
