UT launches personal trainer certificate program
Is now offering a certificate in personal training from its Professional Development Center.The six-week program is the second to launch recently as part of the school's Continuing and Innovative Education offerings. Last week, the center released a new four-month paralegal certificate program.
The personal trainer classes will meet once a week for a total 15 hours lecture and 15 hours in the gym. The nationally-recognized certificate also requires passing a final exam and completing a 30-hour internship.
UT said is launched the program to meet the projected need to fill 298,000 new jobs in fitness and aerobics during the next eight years, according to the U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics. Trainers can work in gyms, resorts, spas, cruise ships and other settings, according to Professional Development Center Manager Liliya Spinazzola .
"What's so terrific about this program is that students can earn this certificate and then work anywhere in the country," Spinazzola said.
The Professional Development Center program was created in collaboration with the World Instructor Training Schools — an International Association of Continuing Education and Training member and affiliate with the National Board of Fitness Examiners. The curriculum was also approved by the Board of Certification for athletic trainers and veterans' education and training.
